Because this passive-aggressive approach to TMI tuesday isn’t my style.
HK and sex (abridged version)
TL;DR
Hong Kong can be very accomodating, quietly seductive, sometimes convenient…
but above all distant.
Which is why I’ve been trying to play him as cold and “doesn’t matter to me” when it comes to sex and relationships.
Why?
I’ve had a ridiculously long post saved in drafts for weeks that links HK’s experience going from ex-colony pawn to self-matured financial powerhouse and the way that effects his bedroom habits and personal relationship tendencies… but I just wanted to get this out here in essential form.
When it comes to relationships with other countries, Hong Kong can’t represent himself as separate from Big Brother China, except in matters of business and trade.
So he deals with other Countries the way a School-of-Hard-Knocks business man would- slightly guarded with a “what would I get out of it?” zero-sum kind of approach. You want him to kiss you, he’ll do it if he thinks it’s worth it. You want to have a go, he may have to charge you (because he thinks maybe it’s not worth his time otherwise).
If he’s being friendly to another Country, it may be because he wants to build up influence… so that if the time comes he can pull in a favor or call in a debt (He’s not afraid to get himself into debt either, he’s good at hedging them.)
At least, that’s what he tells himself: That he’s only building up a relationship for profit and influence.
That’s the official story and he’s sticking to it. It’s not as if he wanted to have his own, pure and honest relationships with other countries anyway… because it’s not as if he ever had the choice. /tsuntsun.
Add this to the fact that he is incredibly dense (7mil ppl within 1.1k square km)… we get a guy who is not the best at real interpersonal relationships.
Friendship, and even sex, is a commodity to Hong Kong. Prostitution has a long history and remains part of modern identity. It is legal, and like many social experiments within experiments in Hong Kong, has evolved to just govern itself.
Hong Kong also has a high threshold for abuse and knows how to take whatever is thrown at him without losing his life or his mind. Opium may have helped that. But the point is he has a high threshold: you just don’t survive being a prized port of Britain and occupation by Imperial Japan without one.
When it comes to anything related to sex, there are only a few things he hasn’t experienced.
Most of which are the good things.
I hope someday he can. because I’d love to write that or RP it
